Company History

Wreford's Transport was founded in 1904 by Silvanus William Wreford.

Starting out with a single horse and cart, Silvanus (Ben) Wreford was just 19 when he began in business, but within 12 months he doubled the size of his enterprise. By the outbreak of World War 1 he had a fleet of horses and carts and 11 drivers. He bought his first motorised vehicle just after the end of the war.

Ben had three sons, Len, Sid, and Bert. Len and Sid continued the work their father began by further expanding the company when they took responsibility for running the company in 1942, Len overseeing the business and Bert managing the fleet of vehicles and the mechanics. By 1947 they had acquired 10 lorries and ceased the use of horses and carts. Sid, (Michael’s father) focussed on running the family farm, however  Len and Bert recognised the need for succession planning. Michael, (despite his agricultural training) undertook a position within the business to equip him with the skills to enable him to assume the role of MD in the 1980s.

Michael is now Group Chairman and his sons Mark, Andy and Rob each holding Director roles in the family firm, keeping the family name synonymous with good service going strong for the next generation of Wrefords.

Wreford's also has a strong Management team to surround them, with Lorraine King as General Manager since 2011 heading up that team, Wreford's continue today to grow and evolve for our Clients and our Staff....
